ASSESSMENT OF TEACHERS PERFORMANCE IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CIVIC EDUCATION CURRICULUM IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OYO EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OYO STATE
Abstract
This Study Examined The Assessment Of Teachers' Performance In The Implementation Of Civic Education Curriculum In Secondary Schools In Oyo East Local Government Area Of Oyo State. The Study Adopted A Descriptive Research Design. The Target Population For This Study Consisted Of All 26 Civic Education Teachers In 11 Public Secondary Schools In Oyo East Local Government Area Of Oyo State. All These Teachers Were Used For The Study. The Instrument For Data Collection For This Study Was A Structured Questionnaire Tagged 'teachers' Performance And Civic Education Curriculum Implementation Questionnaire' (tpceciq). The Data Collected For The Study Were Coded And Analyzed Using Statistical Package For Social Sciences (spss Version 23). The Research Questions Were Answered Using Simple Percentages, Mean, And Standard Deviations While The Only Hypothesis Was Tested Using One-way Analysis Of Variance (anova) At 0.05 Level Of Significance. Results From The Analysis Revealed That Objectives And Context OfCiviceducation Curriculum Are Adequately Relevant To Present Day Socio-political Problems; Teachers Were Not Adequate Enough In Teaching Civic Education; An Encouragingperformance Of Teachers Toward The Implementation Of Civic Educationcurriculum And There Was No Significant Difference In Teacher's Performance Based On The Area Of Specialization Towards The\ Implementation Of Civic Education Curriculum In Secondary Schools In Oyo East Local Government Area Of Oyo. Based On The Findings, The Study Concluded That To A Large Extent The Objectives And Context Of Civic-education Are Relevant To Socio-political Problems But There Was Lack Of Adequate Teaching Personnel Of Civic Education. It Was Recommended Among Others
