EXPLORING THE NEXUS OF INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE, SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN AFRICA: A MULTIDISCIPLINARY ANALYSIS

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the intricate relationships between indigenous knowledge systems, social justice, and human rights in the African context. By employing a multidisciplinary approach that integrates perspectives from anthropology, sociology, law, and indigenous studies, the study seeks to understand how indigenous knowledge contributes to or challenges prevailing notions of social justice and human rights. Through in depth examination and case studies, the research aims to unravel the impact of indigenous knowledge on issues such as community governance, environmental sustainability, healthcare practices, and cultural preservation. Furthermore, the study intends to explore the challenges and opportunities presented by the coexistence of indigenous knowledge and formal legal frameworks, critically assessing their implications for fostering a more equitable and rights-based society in Africa. The research aspires to contribute valuable insights for policymakers, scholars, and practitioners invested in promoting social justice and human rights within diverse African communities.
