Being an agricultural landscape in central Nigeria, the Lafia area is naturally endowed with abundant natural resources, suitable environmental and arable land that support different kinds of agricultural activity and crop production. The area is also well-watered and falls within the Guinea Savannah vegetation zone of Nigeria. It is largely because of this natural endowment and the people who are mainly farmers that the area came to be regarded as the agricultural hub of the present Nasarawa State. Lafia is a place to fall back on even during drought and famine, because of the ceaseless supply of agricultural products in the area. This, in fact, led to the emergence and influx of other people into Lafia with the intention of trading activities and the acquisition of Islamic knowledge referred to as “makarantan Allo” under the Almajiri system. This study observes that, based on empirical facts, the cash-crop production of the area has seriously impacted the Almajiri schools in the area. The findings reveal that the Almajiri pupils benefited greatly through the instrumentality of cash production, which contributed immeasurably to their studies and improved their living conditions.
