Author Guidelines

Sponsorship Disclosure

The Jos Journal of Social Issues (JJSI) is a scholarly publication of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Jos, Nigeria.

The Journal operates as an independent academic publication dedicated to the advancement of knowledge on social issues and sociological problems. Editorial decisions are guided solely by scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the aims and scope of the Journal.

The Journal may receive institutional, administrative, or logistical support from the University of Jos and related academic bodies. However, such support does not influence editorial decisions, peer-review processes, or the publication outcomes of submitted manuscripts.

Authors are required to disclose any financial support, sponsorship, funding sources, or potential conflicts of interest related to their research at the point of manuscript submission. Such disclosures shall be published alongside accepted articles where applicable.

The JJSI is committed to maintaining transparency, academic integrity, and editorial independence in all its publication processes.

Open-Access Policy

The Jos Journal of Social Issues (JJSI) is committed to the promotion and dissemination of scholarly knowledge through an open-access publishing model. All articles published in the journal are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication without subscription charges or access fees.

The Journal believes that unrestricted access to academic research enhances global knowledge exchange, promotes interdisciplinary scholarship, and increases the visibility and impact of research findings, especially on critical social issues affecting Africa and the wider global community.

Under this policy:

· Readers may freely read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of published articles without prior permission from the publisher or authors, provided proper acknowledgment and citation are given.

· Authors retain the right to share and archive their published articles in institutional repositories, personal websites, and academic social networks with proper citation of the original publication in the JJSI.

· The Journal does not charge readers for access to its contents.

The JJSI supports the principles of equitable knowledge dissemination and encourages the widest possible circulation of scholarly works addressing contemporary social issues.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Privacy Statement

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

The Jos Journal of Social Issues (JJSI) respects the privacy of authors, reviewers, readers, and other users of the Journal’s platform and services.

Personal information such as names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, phone numbers, and other contact details provided to the Journal will be used solely for the purposes of:

· manuscript processing and peer review;

· editorial communication;

· publication and indexing activities;

· dissemination of journal-related information; and

· maintenance of academic records.

The Journal shall not sell, share, or disclose users’ personal information to third parties except where required by law or necessary for legitimate academic publishing operations.

All manuscripts submitted to the Journal are treated confidentially during the review and editorial process. Reviewers are expected to maintain strict confidentiality regarding the contents of manuscripts assigned to them.

By submitting manuscripts or registering with the Journal, users consent to the collection and use of their information for legitimate journal operations in accordance with ethical academic publishing standards.
